Holiday Blues

So I was sitting here tonight thinking about how well the Cornish hens tasted with the gravy for my work family this past week, more than sometimes I’m not such a great cook, so when my husband said “Now that’s good”, I was pretty happy about that! Now the point of this story is thinking maybe I should try and remember some of my mom’s recipes while I make them delicious like she did and pass this on to my kids and grandkids!! Many of us struggle with depression and anxiety but the holidays coming up can increase feeling of depression and anxiety significantly, please don’t feel you are alone.


According to Psychiatry.org (2023), depression is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think, and how you act. It is a treatable condition. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease your ability to function at work and at home.


According to Psychiatry.org (2023), anxiety is a normal stress reaction. Mild levels of anxiety can be beneficial in some situations. It can alert us to dangers and help us prepare and pay attention. Anxiety disorders differ from normal feelings of nervousness or anxiousness and involve excessive fear or anxiety. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental disorders. They affect nearly 30% of adults at some point in their lives. However, anxiety disorders are treatable with many psychotherapeutic treatments. Treatment helps most people lead normal productive lives.
